Systems Thinking of Cascades

Systems thinking is applied at Cascades in a variety of ways to support business and environmental sustainability. For example, Cascades has focused for several years on ways to reduce their negative carbon footprint, essentially closing the loop of the vicious cycle, and creating a virtuous cycle reinforcing their environmental sustainability. Cascades use the life cycle assessment to measure and quantify the environmental impact of a product, a process, or a service, while still accounting for all their life cycle stages, like from where the raw material originates to where it is disposed. Overall Cascades is a leader in their industry when it comes to environmental sustainability, they use 7.3 times less water than the industry avg, use 2.8 times less energy, and 3.4 million of recycled fibers which saves about 49 million trees on a yearly basis.
